Costume prizes and an invitation to "Bring Your Skates" make this silkscreen announcement for a Halloween roller skating carnival stand out. It was produced around 1936 by M. Weitzman under the Federal Art Project, the New York arm of the Works Progress Administration's art program. During the Depression, the Project's poster unit made cheap, bold color announcements for city recreation centers, concerts, and public events, and this one promotes a neighborhood night of skating and dress-up. Its flat areas of color and simplified lettering show how the silkscreen method suited quick, eye-catching public notices.
